Overview
The Communication Design Manager is the key interface between the Design Studio and the institution for non-exhibition based 2D design needs. Together the Design Director, the Exhibition Design Manager, and the Communications Design Manager set the priorities for the Design Studio through an annual planning process. The Communications Design Manager ensures that the needs of the institution are being met by design and that the graphic design output is on brand. In addition to this institutional role, the Communications Design Manager is also responsible for participating in the conception and execution of the museum's visual design output related to external communications and the onsite experience of the OMCA brand.

INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Museum's mission, values, vision, and core commitment to the visitor experience, community engagement, and institutional relevancy for the future;
- Contribute to and support the OMCA strategic plan, annual priorities, and institutional initiatives such as diversity advancement;
- Contribute to a positive organizational culture based on mutual respect, a spirit of collegiality, cooperation, and openness to many perspectives;
- Participate in a culture of ongoing learning, collaboration, innovation, creativity, and community engagement.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the design of all non-exhibition materials. This includes the implementation of the design process, client management, actual design of the materials and oversight of designers.
- Serve as lead designer on select projects taking projects from creative brief through production.
- Participate in planning with Design Director and Exhibition Design Manager to manage workload and workflow within the Design Studio. This includes both day to day project based work and broader institutional work such as annual planning.
- Insure a consistent application of our brand and articulate what that means to colleagues inside and outside the Design Studio.
- Supervise the Graphic Designer, Communications and work with other managers in the Design Studio to support a cohesive working team within the office.
- Participate in cross functional teams while working toward institutional outcomes. This includes working on the Earned Revenue team and similar groups that require a collaborative, results oriented relationship
- Work closely with the Design Director and the Marketing & Communications department to implement the annual creative approach for institutional messaging
- Ensure the agreed upon creative approach to institutional messaging is carried across multiple platforms, such as printed and digital collateral for events, programs, fundraising campaigns, rentals, retail, etc.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE
- Ability to deliver results, facilitate and influence others and problem solve beyond temporary solutions
- 4-6 years of design experience within a related organization or advertising agency
- 1-2 years supervisory or managerial experience
- English language proficiency in both spoken and written form
- Experience managing stakeholder expectations in a collaborative and creative environment
- Experience working with a Creative Brief
- Extensive knowledge of Mac platforms for Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Apps
- Experience with motion graphics, After Effects preferred
